Demetria Parnell joined the SAFY team in July of 2002 where she served as the Quality Improvement Director. In September of that year, she moved into the Director of Social Services position for the Therapeutic Foster Care Program. In January 2007 she served as Interim State Director of Alabama and was promoted into this position in April 2007. Demetria has the oversight of two divisions in Alabama, Montgomery and Birmingham. Those divisions are home two Therapeutic Foster Care Programs, Family Options and Continuum of Care.
Prior to SAFY, Demetria was a regional supervisor for the Family Finders Project with Christian Services for Children. She supervised a team of social workers responsible for recruiting and training foster and adoptive homes for 10 counties in central Alabama.
Demetria received a Master of Social Work from The University of Alabama and a Bachelor of Social Work from The University of Alaska Fairbanks. She is a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) and a Private Independent Practitioner (PIP).
